Melanie offered a guided path toward fulfilling the entrepreneurial dream. She authored 10 GUIDED Business Plan™ books crafted to provide entrepreneurs with a clear path – from launching a business to scaling it to becoming a government supplier. Her platform consisted of the 10 book editions, digital versions, classroom training materials, electronic worksheets, and Supplier Academies. Graduates of her widely acclaimed programs have secured millions in contract wins, a testament to her exceptional expertise and commitment.

For over 10 years, Melanie Rae designed and licensed 11 signature programs for The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping women-owned and small and medium businesses thrive. These included Supplier Chain Vendor Training materials and coordination with WBENC’s Regional Partner Organizations (RPO), attracting sponsorships from Google, T-Mobile, and many more billion-dollar brands. Melanie was a proud member of the WBENC community and family well into 2024.

In homage to her grandfather and uncle, Melanie Rae was inspired by the veteran business community and collaborated with several organizations to foster small business growth. GUIDED Business Plan™ and CAMEO’s WOVEN (Women Veteran Entrepreneur Network) partnered with the Jonas Project in 2016. Through their collaboration, they connected women veteran entrepreneurs by facilitating professional alliances, entrepreneurial guidance, and informal mentoring in three communities in Southern California. The GUIDED Business Plan™ extended its support to the Women Veterans Alliance and RISE Financial Pathways creating advocacy, program funding assistance, and targeted outreach to women veterans. In 2024, Melanie was pleased to partner with the Women Veterans Alliance  to develop and submit a successful grant proposal for Entrepreneurship Training for Women Veterans.

As a natural born writer, Melanie created her own platform on Substack, Voices of ESG | Supplier Diversity + Inclusion, in January 2023. Designed as a platform for supplier diversity professionals to exchange insights and best practices, it originated from recordings she created for supplier diversity practitioners, drawing on her extensive conversations with both practitioners and diverse vendors. Soon, she was authoring prolific articles for her subscribers. Her objective was to connect diverse vendors and internal advocates who could open doors to contracting opportunities. Her invaluable insights helped readers gain the insider knowledge needed to be an effective changemaker in supplier diversity circles. She guided isolated professionals through the evolving landscape of Supplier Diversity while championing economic equality. Her mission was to assure emerging professionals that they were not alone, with a special focus on inspiring disadvantaged heads of households to pursue economic independence through entrepreneurship. By creating posts, going LIVE on Instagram, and collaborating with colleagues on podcasts and special broadcasts - including being a featured speaker on 99.5 KKLA Business Hour with Dave Deno and The BusinessZone with Crystal & Gilbert - Melanie believed in impactful, intimate settings where she could truly make a connection with her trajectory-changing insight.

In September 2023, Melanie Rae officially launched NonSolos, Inc. - dba- Plan with Peers™. As the Chief Learning Design Officer, she launched a virtual corporate intrapreneurship training series aimed at equipping employees with the skills to pitch ideas in 60 seconds, driving innovation and efficiency across the organization. Plan with Peers™ maintained its focus on Diverse Suppliers and Supplier Diversity, offering workshops on Capability Statement creation and empowering employees to become valuable resources for business growth strategies.

Empowering Entrepreneurs To Build Their Vision The GUIDED Way

Melanie Rae was a trailblazing CEO, speaker, consultant, coach, mentor, and instructional designer whose mission was to empower others through entrepreneurship education. A passionate advocate for entrepreneurship, access, and inclusion, Melanie dedicated her career to helping individuals and organizations unlock their potential. Her innovative approach to entrepreneurship education included designing and delivering impactful courses as well as programs tailored for Corporate Social Responsibility (ESG) initiatives. Melanie also worked closely with supplier diversity professionals, equipping them with results-driven vendor training to surpass diverse vendor utilization goals. She transformed how companies communicated their value to clients, leaving a lasting impact on their growth and success. As a pioneer in content strategy and leadership development, Melanie founded GUIDED Academy and its subsidiaries, setting a new benchmark within small business communities nationwide. Her award-winning books and training materials became foundational resources for some of the largest business development centers, cementing her legacy as a visionary leader and educator.

In 2009, Melanie became the creative force that launched the GUIDED Business Plan Training Platform, dedicated to entrepreneur education and development. The platform has since guided more than 15,000 small and diverse businesses at various stages of development to success with her materials. Furthermore, she developed proprietary training curricula for U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Resource Partners. These partners, including SBDCs, SCORE, and Women's Business Centers, facilitate essential training, mentoring, and counseling for small businesses nationwide. She personally taught over 1,100 students. Her highly sought-after curriculum expanded to encompass essential professional development tools, including crafting business plans, mastering capability statements, delivering impactful 60-second pitches, navigating supplier diversity and inclusion, identifying and obtaining the right certifications, securing government contracts, and more. Particularly around the 2020 nationwide shutdown, Melanie reached out to several utility companies with a compelling message: “Protect your supply chain by equipping your vendors with continuity plans.” Her GUIDED Continuity Statement workshops helped hundreds of diverse vendors create plans to gain the trust and confidence of corporate buyers who experienced stress or financial loss around this time. By 2024, Melanie’s work had evolved into designing and leading training programs aimed at promoting economic equality through comprehensive entrepreneurship education. She was a gifted author, creative, and instructor whose passion inspired tens of thousands of business professionals across the globe.

In November 2019, McDonald's USA partnered with YWCA USA through its Black & Positively Golden movement to expand the Women's Empowerment 3600 (WE 3600) program. Licensing the GUIDED Business Plan™ course, WE 3600 was created to help women of color break through barriers to starting, growing, and sustaining businesses. The program provided educational tools to enhance their entrepreneurial knowledge and confidence. This transformative initiative empowered 350 minority women from diverse socio-economic backgrounds with the curriculum needed to thrive in their entrepreneurial journeys. It took place in 14 markets, including: Birmingham, Charleston, Chicago, Delaware, Greensboro, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Nashville, Rockford, St. Louis, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington.

Melanie Rae partnered with the California Water Association USDP in 2019 to design, facilitate, and deliver signature vendor programs aimed at equipping diverse suppliers for contracting opportunities in the water industry. She empowered entrepreneurs and diverse vendors to confidently craft 60-second pitches, enabling them to pursue government contracts. Additionally, she facilitated connections between prime contractors and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises to support the growth of supplier diversity programs—a pivotal collaboration that extended through 2024.

After seven years in full remission from initially having breast cancer, late in 2024 Melanie unfortunately was diagnosed yet again with a different form of breast cancer. Just two and a half months prior, she and two colleague-friends, Michelle Cauley and Ronda Jackson, hosted a LinkedIn Live discussion titled, When Cancer Becomes Your Boss: Entrepreneur Resiliency.” Unaware of the journey she was about to embark on once again, Melanie shared her insights on navigating cancer in the workplace. Wanting to create a space for honest dialogue, she emphasized the importance of openness and vulnerability. During the session, an attendee asked, “How were you able to get through this?” Melanie responded, “It was a smoother journey because I had a plan. I followed the doctors. I had a positive attitude.” She spoke about allowing herself moments of sadness but choosing not to adopt a “Why me?” mindset. Instead, she focused on replacing “Woe is me” with an attitude of adaptability, making the best of the situation she was given.

Melanie also shared how hearing survival stories gave her hope. “I needed to hear stories from people who survived because I couldn’t fathom what that looked like for me. I’m here to share how a positive attitude and a PLAN led to the best outcome for me.” She and her colleagues drew parallels between this process and entrepreneurship, highlighting how having a plan and following guidance can lead to success and maintaining a healthy mindset. Melanie underscored the importance of empathy and the role of those around her to nurture a positive atmosphere. Quoting Robin Roberts, she said, “We all got something.” Melanie went a step further asking listeners, “How can you be someone else’s light, that smile, that sunshine in someone else’s day when you know they’re going through something that might be more drastic than what you’re facing at the moment?” The discussion also explored how employers and team leaders can provide both support and space for individuals navigating life-altering challenges. They concluded that building connections—whether through a broad network or an intimate circle—can lead to shared stories with reciprocal impact. Melanie’s candor inspired viewers to schedule mammograms. Her resilience demonstrated extraordinary courage. Her compassion highlighted the power of human connection. And her spirit radiated the gift of light, leaving an indelible mark on all who participated.

Her plan this second time around was to be more open with her journey. However, Melanie Rae sadly passed away soon after in October 2024. Throughout her life, she graced the world with an uncanny resilience and an unwaveringly positive spirit. Her glowing nature and remarkable ability to inspire those around her will undoubtedly be her lasting legacy. Melanie was a passionate advocate, particularly for women and minority business owners, dedicating her life to creating solutions that fueled growth, fostered collaboration, and championed equity and inclusion. She had an unparalleled ability to inspire, educate, and connect entrepreneurs, often spotting synergies others overlooked and making introductions that turned ideas into opportunities. She provided the tools to help start-ups and vendors navigate the world of corporate businesses. Her training programs and consultations have turned dreams into goals for thousands of entrepreneurs and small business owners. Her business initiatives built strong foundations that led to strengthened business connections, opportunities, and undeniable success directly tied to Melanie’s keen business acumen and guidance. Her platforms drove countless success stories over the course of the fifteen years she dedicated to the industry. Through her businesses, GUIDED Business PlanTM and Plan with PeersTM , Melanie taught us to push boundaries, think boldly, and persevere. Melanie will always be remembered for opening doors and encouraging others to walk through them. She created spaces for others to dream bigger.
